Something new…

As we move deeper into the recording process, we find ourselves looking for new ways to support the work.

While it’s not strictly a band project, Tony has recently set up a Patreon site to help support some ambitions he has for his writing.  Included in that, of course, is support for the band’s work…hoping to purchase some new recording equipment, for instance, and work on getting our music in front of new people.

If you’re so inclined, you can look at the site and learn more about Patreon in general here.

New recordings and some tangential links

We spent some time last week working on full-band versions of two of our signature pieces — hope to have them available for your listening pleasure in the next couple of days.

While you’re waiting, you can check out a couple of things other folks in the band are up to.  Links at the end of the post.

— Chris O’Donnell’s searingly hot cover band “Seed RaCeR” is celebrating its ten-year anniversary right now with bookings all over Southern New England. If you use Facebook, you can look them up there for all their doings.

— Steven Lanning-Cafaro is busy as all get out playing in like 80 different bands.  Latest to the roster are “Custard Pie” (a Led Zeppelin tribute band) and of course, metal masters “Let Us Prey.”

— Tony Brown published poems in Drunk In A Midnight Choir and in a new anthology called “Trumped,” which has nothing to do with the game of bridge.

Quick note: “Trinity” News

“Trinity,” the feature film written and directed by Skip Shea which has a mesmerizing score by Faro and which also has a performance of “Trinity Tango” by Tony and Faro in the film, has continued to rack up awards and nominations on the festival circuit.

There’s a new Website up for the film.  Check it out here!

Made a change to our “Tracks” page…

Just did a major update to our “Tracks” page to make it easier to purchase our music.

Click on “Tracks” above to go check it out…and please, PLEASE consider making a purchase or two. Individual tracks are a buck, the whole discography is offered at a 25% discount, and anything you purchase from us goes NOT to finance our lavish lifestyles, but will get plunged right back into keeping this project alive and kicking — recording expenses, equipment purchases, you name it.

As we say on the “Tracks” page, buying work from independent artists is important to keep us going and support us in the cold, cold world.  We hope you’ll find something you love there and drop a dollar or two our way.

Thanks!!!

“Over The Borderline…”

We mentioned a while back that we had contributed once again to the Great Cover Song Challenge put forth by Victor Infante as a catalyst for a column looking at the work of a single artist.

We drew “Borderline,” added in Capri Lanning-Cafaro on vocals, tossed a poem into the mix, and did it up pretty straight and true…

The story came out this AM. At the end of it is a link to the playlist of all the cover songs as done by artists from all over the country and overseas as well. (We’re third on the list.) Tons of good stuff there; put it on and marvel at the madness we all wrought.

Thanks again to Victor for the opportunity, and congrats to all the musicians…!

Over The Borderline: What 70 Cover Songs Taught Us About Madonna

Oceans Matter.

Environmental devastation is on a lot of minds these days. (Maybe not as many as it should be, of course…looking at you, Federal Government…)

One group that deserves some attention for doing something about one aspect of that is Ocean Matters.   Through hands-on research projects and diving trips, these folks educate young people on issues related to the complex ecosystems undersea and the threats they are facing, such as the crisis of plastics in the ocean.

Here’s an old piece of ours that connects to that particular topic, “On Nantucket.”  This is a duo version of it (Tony and Faro) from our second album, “The Duende Project.”  (There’s also a three piece version of it on “Basement Takes.”) For many years, Faro and Tony spent a lot of time out on the island of Nantucket doing shows and enjoying the hospitality of Len Germinara and Dr. Sarah Oktay out at the Field Biology Station.  The poem reflects on those trips and what we learned out there.

We hope that you’ll take a moment, visit the Ocean Matters site, and think about what you might be able to do, there or elsewhere, to help in this moment of crisis.

Two gigs, two nights…

Many thanks to all those who saw us at the two gigs we’ve done in the last two days — our Thursday night stand at starlite and the short set three-quarters of the band did last night at Bull Mansion. Nice to get out and play more than once a month or so.

We’re on a bit of a live hiatus till March 31, when we’ll be in New Haven for a show — more details on that later.

Until then…see you soon.

Two gigs this coming week

On Thursday night, February 23rd, we’ll be back at Starlite Bar and Gallery, 39 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA doing three sets from 9-12 or so. No cover.

And on Friday, February 24th, we’ll be on a bill celebrating Worcester poet Nicholas Earl Davis’ album release at the newly opened Bull Mansion, 55 Pearl Street, Worcester.  On the bill with us will be Deadstick and Hambone, Ghost Guest, the Vanguard, and Sarah Louise French, as well as a set by Nick accompanied by crack acoustic players.  $7 cover.

We’ll have a special configuration of the band that night as Mr. O’Donnell won’t be joining us due to a prior commitment…so it’ll be a trio of Tony, Chris, and Faro figuring it out as we go, or something like that.  We LOVE a challenge.  Gonna be fun.

NEW TRACK!!!!!

Three of us come from a state — Massachusetts — that recently legalized the use of recreational cannabis (we’ve had medical cannabis here for a while).  For many years, we’ve been performing an original piece live that discusses the life lessons we MIGHT have learned from being part of Stoner Nation in our youth.

We certainly don’t condone such use where it’s not legal (not us, no not us never ever), but since we’re able to be a little more open about discussing it now and we like to help folks out…we’ve finally recorded it.

This is an alternate take of the track; another version will be coming out soon on a benefit album to assist someone with some legal fees in an outrageous court battle over her use of medical cannabis.  More on that when the album’s available…until then, here’s our latest track,  “All I Know I Learned By Smoking Marijuana.”

Enjoy…and then pass it on.
