A tale of two shows

We’re coming off two nights of music and poetry.

First, a stellar evening of three sets at starlite — premieres of new work (“Authenticity, ” a new poem accompanied by solo banjo by Chris Lawton) and full band arrangements of older work (“So Much Depends” and “Scenes From Gepetto Town”).  Also resurrected “Nothing Worth Doing” with a new arrangement.  Great night of tight, funky fun.

Then, onto a multi-act bill in Worcester at the Hotel Vernon with Lovina (excellent singer-songwriter with a uke and a piano), Nick Davis and the Genuine Ruckus (local favorites also working the poetry/music synergy with a more punk edge), and Boston-based rockers Bad Fogelberg (easily a contender in the best band name category).  We did a short set of favorites for our part on the bill.  Lightly but enthusiastically attended night in a historic setting (the bar, the oldest in Worcester, dates to 1901 and has a “colorful” reputation).

Next up in terms of gigs: back at starlite on June 2; then, a headlong plunge into the long promised Next Album…

On the grind again…

Back to the Secret Lair today for more practice and writing…Shows this week!

That Schedule again:

May 12 — starlite bar and gallery, 39 Hamilton St, Southbridge MA.  9PM, no cover.

May 13 — Hotel Vernon Ship Room, Kelley Square, Worcester MA.  With Lovina, Nick Davis and the Genuine Ruckus, and Bad Fogelberg. Cover, 5 measly bucks.  Doors at 8…

June 2 — back at starlite in Southbridge.

Been a few…

as we’ve all been absorbed with life outside of the band — but we get back into it today as we gather at the Secret Underground Lair to start rehearsals for the shows we’ve got coming up in May and start talking about the album for real.

More details TBA.

June 2 — back at starlite in Southbridge.

Stay tuned for more info about the band and more in the next couple of days…

“Falconers” — free track available now…

We’ve made “Falconers,” the first track we’ve ever released from the full four piece band, available for FREE download over at our Bandcamp page.

This tribute to librarians we’ve known was written as a farewell gift for Wess Mongo Jolley, retired now from his job at Dartmouth College and the founder and driving force behind the Indiefeed Performance Poetry podcast site.  Thanks, Mongo…

Also want to remind everyone that everything else we’ve recorded — five albums’ worth — is there too, and if you’re feeling frisky there’s a deal that will get you all five for the low sum of 24.75…with a new album on the horizon, it would be a great support to us if you were to grab one or more tracks AND it would prep you for the awesomeness to come…

Thanks!  Hope you enjoy.

Friday May 13th…your lucky day…

because we’ll be throwing a “Duende Project and Friends” party at the Ship Room in the Hotel Vernon, Kelly Square, Worcester MA around 8:00 PM…!

Come join us and our guests — singer/songwriter/multi-talented artist Lovina, poetry/music act Nick Davis and the General Ruckus, and Boston-based indie-rock band Bad Fogelberg — as we get the old joint rocking.  Stay tuned for more details…

New show on the schedule!

We’re putting together a bill of some friends and favorites for a show at the Ship Room, the weird and wonderful Prohibition era venue inside the Hotel Vernon in Worcester MA for Friday, May 13th.  Oldest bar in the city, built in 1901, former watering hole of the illustrious Babe Ruth.  Come for the cold beer piped in through copper from the basement kegs, stay for the ghosts and the madness that is Kelly Square.  Other bands TBA. Stay tuned…

Last night in Southbridge…

and the world’s your oyster…Yeah, it’s not as catchy as One Night In Bangkok, but what is?

You missed a SHOW last night if you didn’t come out to starlite gallery and bar for three tremendous sets of Duende Project originals.

Featured the starlite premiere of  the dub-inflected “Neighborhood Bar” to great acclaim, and the even more well received first-time-anywhere performance of “Blood Or Blues,” a duet from Tony on poem and Chris Lawton on the three string electric cigarbox guitar — which segued right into a blistering full band version of “Hell’s Ditch,” lovely little ditty on the joys of working the woolen mills of a New England mill town (shout out to anyone reading from the days of Schuster’s Mill in Douglas, MA).

The usual insane versions of “Funk 101” and “Conspiracy” were had, as well as an impromptu version of “Punk” for the Bad Brains fan in the crowd. Great crowd, great mushroom and leek soup (thanks, Annie), some stellar work as always by Faro who brought the keyboard with him for the first time, and of course the rhythmic tornado that is Chris O’Donnell was in fine form as well…

Thanks to all who came out…stay tuned for more dates soon!  We’re also going into album-recording mode, so there will be noise about that as well…

Practice/Next gig

Productive practice yesterday — got a new piece down that will feature Chris Lawton on electric 3-string cigar box guitar!  You can catch its debut Thursday, March 10, when we play three sets of our original music and poetry at starlite, 39 Hamilton St, Southbridge, MA.  9 PM.  See you there!
