Happy Father’s Day, Or Something Like That

On Sunday the 17th, the band played the first of its new series of alternating dates at Nick’s, everyone’s favorite neighborhood bar with an eclectic atmosphere and a scintillating schedule of jazz, blues, cabaret, and what-have-you.  We’ll be there pretty much every other Sunday for the foreseeable future, following the Listen poetry reading.

We played without Mr. Lawton, which presented some interesting challenges and forced us to dig deep into the catalog for some past gems…This will be our likely MO for the foreseeable future, sadly enough.  Day jobs, y’know…

Nonetheless, we made some new fans and pleased some old ones (we hope), and look forward to doing it again.

We’ll be back at Nick’s on July 15th (skipping July 1st as Nick’s is having “Canada Day” — see what I mean about eclectic?) and the wonderful up-and-coming singer/songwriter Gracie Day will be there on June 24th and July 8th.  After that, it’s every other Sunday.  Nick’s, 124 Millbury Street, Worcester, MA.  9PM, donations accepted.

And on June 30th, we’ll be one of the bands on the bill for FarmFest, a benefit for Worcester’s Donker Farm, the only working farm still active within the city limits of Worcester!  (They’ve got sheep.  It’s cool.) Ralph’s Diner, 146 Grove Street, Worcester. More as the date approaches.

Long time, no see…

It’s been a while since we checked in.  Sorry about that.

The quick version is that we’ve been really, really busy.

First off, we recorded for a television show — two, actually.  You can see one of them here.  We’ll post a new link when the second one is available.

Next, we did a show at AS220 in Providence, RI on May 29th.  That show was video recorded and audio exists as well; we’ll be posting clips and links when they’re ready.

We also did a show at our usual place, starlite in Southbridge, on May 30th.  It was the last show of a six-month monthly residency and it was a blast.  We’ll be back there soon.

Never fear, though, as we’ll be starting a twice monthly residency at Nick’s in Worcester on Sunday, June 17th.  More about that later.

And on June 30th, we’ll be at Ralph’s in Worcester as part of a benefit for Donker Farm, the last working farm in the city limits of Worcester.  Again, more details as we get closer.

Whew!  That’s a lot.  Stay tuned for more details…!

Wednesday night in Southbridge: improvisation and Led Zeppelin…?!

We played two LONG sets on this past Wednesday night in Southbridge that included some improvised poetry by Tony over extended jamming by the band, including a long tribute to alligators and such near the end of the night.  (Really, you had to be there.)* There was also a two-song Zeppelin interlude, as Capri Lanning-Cafaro took the stage to sing “Immigrant Song” and yes, “Stairway To Heaven.”  (You really, REALLY had to be there.)**

All in all, another great night of band looseness and tightness in the right places.

*So, you want to be there next time all this fun happens?  Check us out on these upcoming dates:

May 29, Providence, RI at AS220 on Empire Street (with Cross Rhode Blues and the Fellowship Of Feeding Wolves)  NOTE:  We’ll be making a live video and recording of the set that night!!

May 30, Southbridge, MA — starlite, once again

June 27, Worcester, MA — Nick’s Cabaret and Restaurant, Millbury Street

— and more to come.

** Wanna see Capri and Faro together doing some Zeppelin and Heart?  Check out their new cover band project, a tribute to the boys with the runes and the Wilson sisters — Whole Lotta Heart, coming soon (say, May 11 soon) to venues near you (say, the Cannery in Southbridge, MA!)

Busy times…

The fall schedule is picking up…

The full band will be back in action at Nick’s in Worcester on October 26th for three sets, and at our old stomping ground in Southbridge at starlite for three sets on November 2nd and November 29th.

We’re working on a special recording project right now.  Will keep you posted as soon as it’s complete.

Tony will be doing a series of solo poetry shows on Tuesdays coming up — in Worcester at the Raven on October 10th, at Bull Feeney’s in Portland ME on October 17th, and at the Deuce in Northampton, MA on November 14th.

Faro’s amazing metal project, Let Us Prey, continues to roar about the Northeast behind the release of their EP, “The Saint Of Killers.”  And Chris O’Donnell’s rip-snortin’ cover band, “Seed RaCeR,” plays the Southeastern MA and RI circuit on a regular basis.  Hit those band names up on Facebook for the details.

Finally…Tony’s Patreon site (where folks can pledge monthly amounts as small as a dollar a month for access to exclusive content) is picking up steam, and he recently put out a new eBook version of an unpublished manuscript, “White Pages,” to an upper level tier of patrons.  Money from those pledges have gone to things like the upkeep and maintenance of this Website, among other things, so feel free to join up if you’re a fan.

Onward!

Three quick thoughts:

1.
Thanks to all who purchased merchandise from us or any other musicians on Bandcamp on Friday, February 3rd.  You helped make a significant donation to the ACLU in these difficult times.

2.
Great gig on Saturday at Nick’s in Worcester, where we were on a bill with all sorts of terrific musicians and poets in honor of our friend Victor Infante’s birthday.  Hope to have a video from the gig up soon!

3.
Keep an ear open — we’ve been doing some recording and will be sharing some new tracks really soon!

Details on all of these to follow…
